Abstract
Earlobe defects can be divided into congenital and acquired types. The location and size of congenital defects vary depending on embryology. Acquired defects result from trauma, ear piercing, burns, etc. The degree of defects vary from slight
indentation of the periphery to complete division of the lobule including the cartilagenous skeleton.
Seven cases of earlobe defect were treated with various methods. Four cases were congenital and the other three cases were traumatic defects. Two cases were for male and five cases were for female patients. The follow-up period was from 9 to 30
months(mean 22 months). Complications were asymmetry to the opposite normal and hematoma.
The choice of adequate surgical correction was dependent on the shape, location, and degree of the defect. To avoid any indentation of the repaired site, especially at te marginal area, we used the flaps instead on the linear closure. But, in one
of the
traumatic cases, the surrounding tissues were affected enought not to use as the flap donor site. We obtained good results in most cases and hereby report the cases with discussion and review of literature.
